Description

Sheetseal 226 is a cold-applied, self-adhesive sheet waterproofing membrane consisting of a high-density cross-orientated polyethylene film coated with a bitumen/rubber adhesive layer and a removable reinforced silicone release paper. It provides a durable water and water vapour barrier for a wide range of below-ground and ground-level applications.

Typically used for external and internal basement tanking, retaining walls, ground floor damp proof membranes and reservoirs, the membrane is particularly well suited to large unobstructed areas. Applied correctly, it is capable of providing the levels of protection required for Grade 1, 2 and 3 basements as classified under BS 8102:2009 (Type A barrier protection). It is suitable for application to concrete, masonry, steel and insulation board/ICF systems.

The membrane is 1.6mm thick overall, with 300% elongation and a puncture resistance of 230N, providing a robust and flexible barrier that will perform for the life of the structure when correctly protected. A selvedge strip on each roll ensures clean, reliable lap sealing. Sheetseal 226 holds BBA Certificate No. 92/2817 covering use for waterproofing above, at and below ground level.

Benefits

  • Provides a reliable water and water vapour barrier for basement tanking, retaining walls and ground floor DPM applications
  • Cold-applied with no drying time required — installation can proceed immediately after laying
  • Elastic and flexible with 300% elongation, accommodating minor substrate movement without compromising the waterproof seal
  • Self-healing properties help maintain integrity if the membrane is punctured or damaged during installation
  • Factory-controlled thickness ensures consistent performance across the whole installation
  • Sulphate resistant, making it suitable for use in aggressive ground conditions

Good to know

  • Do not attempt to apply the membrane at temperatures below +5°C — this applies to both the membrane and the primer
  • A primer (Sheetseal Primer) must be applied to all vertical or inclined surfaces before laying — allow 2 to 4 hours drying time before overcoating, and do not leave the primed surface exposed for more than 7 days. Note: do not use Sheetseal Primer on insulation boards or ICF systems
  • To apply, progressively remove the release paper from one end of the roll and press the adhesive face firmly onto the prepared substrate, smoothing from the centre outwards to remove air pockets
  • Side laps should be a minimum of 50mm and end laps a minimum of 100mm — all laps should be rolled with a hard roller to ensure good adhesion
  • The membrane must be protected from UV light within 28 days of application — it is not designed to be left permanently exposed
  • Rolls are available in three widths: 1050mm x 19.05m, 300mm x 20m and 150mm x 20m, the narrower rolls are particularly useful for angles, corners and projections
