Air & Vapour Control

Air & Vapour Control

Air and vapour control products manage the movement of air and moisture vapour through the building envelope, helping to protect insulation and structure from the condensation and air leakage that can lead to damp, mould and reduced thermal performance. They are used in floor, wall and roof build ups across residential, commercial and industrial construction.

The range covers air and vapour control layers (AVCLs) and vapour barriers, vapour checks, and the sealing tapes used to form continuous, airtight laps, edges and penetrations. It is worth being clear on the difference between the main membrane types. A vapour barrier or AVCL offers high resistance to vapour and is close to impermeable, making it suitable where moisture needs to be held back as fully as possible. A vapour check is a vapour retarder, designed to slow rather than stop the passage of vapour, which suits build ups that need to manage moisture while allowing a degree of movement. Choosing the right type for the construction is key to a build up that performs as intended.

Many air and vapour control layers are also specified with their reaction to fire in mind, with fire-rated and A2 classified options available for projects where non-combustible materials are required. Whatever the application, pairing the membrane with the correct sealing tape is what gives a reliable, continuous control layer across the whole envelope.
