Swift Nesting Brick

Manthorpe Swift Nesting Brick is a built-in cavity wall nesting solution providing a safe, spacious and habitable area for swifts to nest within modern house construction. Swift populations across the UK have been declining for many years as modern building standards and construction methods have removed the cracks, crevices and gaps in buildings that swifts have traditionally occupied for thousands of years.

Developed in conjunction with major house builders and conservation experts and endorsed by the RSPB, the Swift Nesting Brick integrates seamlessly into standard cavity wall brickwork, sitting flush with the external wall face. A built-in cavity tray detail protects against water ingress, and an integral nest cup provides an ideal starting point for nest building. Simple to install during the bricklaying process or retrospectively into existing walls. The 29 x 65mm entrance opening suits the flight characteristics of swifts.

Good to know 

• Developed with major house builders and conservation experts
• 413cm²  of floor area gives the maximum habitable living space within the wall construction.
• The Swift Brick should be located high within the gable wall of the property, ideally at 5m high and above and over the level of the insulation zone. 
• Where possible, install in locations that are unlikely to receive large amounts of direct sunlight during the hottest times of the day, ideal places include below the overhang of the verge and barge board.
